2014 MLK Day of Service Outcome Report
65 Local organizations were awarded funds to perform service projects on
MLK Day of Service, Monday, January 20, 2014. These organizations
chose to perform service projects that addressed issues in the following
categories:
• 24.3% Education
• 23.6% Neighborhood Project
• 15.7% Health
• 9.3% Other
• 7.9% Public Safety
• 7.1% Economic Opportunity
• 5.7% Clean Energy / Environmental Stewardship
• 5 % Supporting Veteran & Military Families
• 1.4% Disaster Preparedness
Other categories mentioned were: Domestic Violence, Youth Empowerment,
Leadership and Communication Skills, Safe haven for youth who are
victims of bullying, abuse, and discrimination, Supportive Services,
Neighborhood Beautification, Family and Faith, Employment Development,
Inbound Resident Community Outreach, Low Income and Homelessness, Youth
that have been affected by the juvenile justice system, Collaboration,
and Social Uplift.
Outcomes and community impact
Awarded service projects recruited over 2,000 volunteers (over 40% were
youth) and cultivated a whopping 15,652 volunteer hours. According to
www.Nonprofitquarterly.org report for 2012, the state of Florida
volunteer hour is valued at $22.14 per hour which estimates MLK Day of
Service volunteer hours’ value at $346,531.96. $64,137 in-kind donations
were captured ($57,254.29 in non-cash and $6882.89 in cash donations).
It was recorded that 15,830 community individuals were impacted and/or
served during the 2014 Day of service event
